Student Life

What do we want every De La Salle Academy student to have?

Habits of Mind

  • Ability to sit down and do their own work. Self-discipline, focus, organization and time management. “Half of the learning time is outside of the classroom.”

  • Attentiveness in class—ability to focus and stay focused on every subject.

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and risk-taking. The ability to take what they have learned and apply it in the same and different subjects.

  • A love of learning—not just getting it done.

  • Permission to fail in pursuit of higher excellence.

Skills

  • Annotating and note-taking (especially Cornell notes).

  • Analyze and synthesize more than one text at a time.

  • Making and proving an argument with supporting evidence—logical thinking.

  • Ability to write a coherent essay on the spot.

  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.

Personal Qualities

  • Self-regulated.

  • Builders of community wherever they go.

  • Understanding themselves as learners.

  • Confident, secure, focused on the future—able to make wise personal choices and resist peer pressure.

  • Lead by example.

  • It is the responsibility of the family to form their child in their ways of faith. At De La Salle we offer students to put into practice the best of their spiritual traditions in the service of the community.
